Debra Bell, PhD, is the author of the award-winning Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling, and her articles on homeschooling have appeared in many publications. Debra and her husband, Kermit, home-educated their four kids from kindergarten through high school graduation. During those years, Debra founded three homeschool co-ops that continue today. Debra serves on the executive committee of the Global Home Education Conference and chair of the conference's research committee. She coedited the Journal of School Choice 2016 special issue of home education research and is coeditor of the forthcoming Homeschooling in the 21st Century. Debra holds a bachelor’s degree in communications education, a master’s in English, and a doctorate in educational psychology. A former high school and college English teacher and a pioneer in online education, Debra is executive director of Aim Academy, which provides online college prep and AP courses.
